Belles
Author(s):
Mark Dunn
The six Walker sisters hail from Memphis, but now they are scattered all over the country. Only Peggy still lives in Memphis, where she cares for Mama. When the play begins, Peggy is phoning her sisters to tell them that Mama is in the hospital. Nothing serious-- she just ate some bad tuna. An intriguing story of vivid characters and involving conflict emerges ain the ensuing phone calls-- thirty-seven in all-- among the sisters. One is a ventriloquist who things of her dummy as her child and another is married to a minister who is about to leave her. Another is an alcoholic. The amusing Sherry, who now calls herself "Dust," is a whacked-out practitioner of practically anything New-Age.
